About Us

What Is Green?

We at Green Meetup recognize that there remains a considerable amount of confusion, both from consumers and companies, as to what constitutes a Green product. Navigating through the on-line maze of advice from individuals and government agencies can be a daunting task, and informational deficiencies will no doubt result.

We do not claim to know everything about what is Green. There is no single solitary set of rules for what makes a product or a service Green, and that lack of a universal standard is something we take very seriously. Our criteria for determining whether we feel comfortable listing a company’s products and services centers around one key theme: Is this company making an effort above and beyond that of its competitors?

Companies whose products are created using organic, recycled or reused materials, whose products fit the EPA’s Energy Star and WaterSense parameters, or whose products include no harmful pesticides or irradiated materials, or are otherwise created in environmentally, sustainable, and/or socially conscious way, are all given the opportunity to be displayed on Green Meetup.com. In the months to come we will unveil our Green Meetup Certification Process, and we look forward to sharing that with you as it becomes available.

We trust both our Green Meetup companies to be honest and forthright about their information and our Green Meetup members to hold them accountable for that information. Green Meetup reserves the right to rescind access to any company that is found to be misleading about just how Green their products and services are.

We appreciate the fact that there is no simple answer to this question. It is our sincere hope that, in time, the process by which we determine which companies are Green will become more concrete. We value openness and transparency, and it is of the utmost important to us that accountability remain a top priority for our company. Consider this our good-faith effort to be honest with you about our definition of Green, and we hope you will respond in kind, by way of our rating options and our comment boxes, so that we might keep open the lines of communication. It is our reciprocal relationship that will ultimately contribute to the Greening of the planet.

Cheers and best wishes from all of us at Green Meetup.
